The Phu Yen Provincial Center for Disease Control has just released a report assessing the measles situation and the risk of a measles outbreak in Phu Yen province.
The province recorded 11 measles cases out of a total of 53 suspected measles rash fever cases that were tested, including 01 measles-related death. 4/9 localities recorded measles cases: Tuy Hoa city, Tay Hoa, Tuy An and Song Hinh district.
The shortage of Measles and Measles-Rubella vaccines for the province for a long time, especially in 2023, has led to many children not being vaccinated on schedule and fully. Although these two vaccines are currently fully supplied, the work of supplementary vaccination, catch-up vaccination and mobilizing people to take their children for vaccination is still limited. The vaccination results by the end of September 2024 in the province, Measles vaccine reached 76.6%, Measles-Rubella reached 70.1%. According to the assessment of the Provincial Center for Disease Control, the risk of Measles epidemic in the province is currently high, among 9 districts, towns and cities, Tuy An district is assessed at a high risk level.
Phu Yen Department of Health has also directed the Health Centers of districts, towns and cities to continue promoting measles vaccination for 9-month-old children and measles-rubella vaccination for 18-month-old children in the expanded immunization program, reviewing catch-up vaccinations and catch-up vaccinations for cases that have not been fully vaccinated against measles.
